1-Butyne

1-Butyne is a four-carbon alkyne with a terminal carbon–carbon triple bond and molecular formula C₄H₆. It is a colorless, flammable gas at room temperature.

Alkyne: A hydrocarbon containing at least one carbon–carbon triple bond. 1-Butyne belongs to this family because its defining bond is a carbon–carbon triple bond.
2-Butyne: A four-carbon alkyne with its carbon–carbon triple bond between the two internal carbon atoms. It has the same formula as 1-butyne but an internal rather than terminal triple bond.
1,2-Dibromobutane: A four-carbon compound bearing bromine atoms on adjacent carbon atoms. Double dehydrohalogenation of this vicinal dibromide can prepare 1-butyne.
