1938 Yellow River flood

A catastrophic 1938 flood in China caused when Nationalist forces breached Yellow River dikes to impede the Japanese advance. It inundated settlements and farmland, killed many civilians, and altered the river’s course.

Huayuankou: A site near Zhengzhou where the Yellow River dike was breached in June 1938. The breach here released the floodwaters that spread across the North China Plain.
