1960 Turkish coup d'état

The military overthrow of Turkey’s government on 27 May 1960, which ended the Democratic Party’s rule and led to trials and executions of former leaders.

National Unity Committee: The military junta that ruled Turkey after the 1960 coup and oversaw the transition to civilian government. It claimed authority after the takeover and directed the post-coup state.
Democratic Party (Turkey): A Turkish political party that governed from 1950 until its removal in the 1960 coup. Its government was the coup’s immediate target.
