2004 Madrid train bombings

A series of coordinated bombings on Madrid commuter trains on March 11, 2004, killed 193 people and injured nearly 2,000. An Islamist extremist cell carried out the attacks.

Madrid commuter rail network: The system of suburban trains serving Madrid and its surrounding region. The attackers placed bombs on trains running into Madrid during the morning commute.
