2018 Winter Olympics

The XXIII Olympic Winter Games, held in PyeongChang, South Korea, from February 9 to 25, 2018. They included 102 medal events across 15 sports.

Yuzuru Hanyu: A Japanese figure skater who won Olympic men’s singles gold in 2014 and 2018. His successful title defense became one of the Games’ signature performances.
PyeongChang Olympic Stadium: A temporary stadium built in PyeongChang for the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics opening and closing ceremonies. It hosted the ceremonies before being dismantled after the events.
2018 Winter Olympics host city election: The International Olympic Committee process that selected PyeongChang to host the 2018 Winter Olympics. PyeongChang won the host vote after two unsuccessful bids for earlier Winter Games.

Gangneung Ice Arena: An indoor arena in Gangneung built for Olympic figure skating and short-track speed skating. It held Hanyu’s title defense and the Games’ short-track competitions.
PyeongChang: A county in Gangwon Province, South Korea, that hosted the 2018 Winter Olympics. The county gave the Games their official host name and mountain setting.
Russian Olympic athletes at the 2018 Winter Olympics: Russian athletes who competed under the Olympic flag at PyeongChang after Russia’s national team was suspended. The suspended team and neutral designation reflected the fallout from Russia’s doping scandal.
2022 Winter Olympics: The XXIV Olympic Winter Games, held in Beijing, China, in 2022. Beijing followed PyeongChang as the next Winter Games host.
