2D computer graphics

2D computer graphics are images created or manipulated with computers and represented in two dimensions. They include pixel-based raster images and resolution-independent vector graphics.

Raster graphics: Images represented as grids of pixels, each storing color or other image data. They form one of the two main representation families in 2D computer graphics.
Rasterization: The conversion of geometric shapes into a grid of pixels. It turns vector-like drawing instructions into pixels for display or storage.
Digital painting: The creation of painted images using digital tools that simulate or extend traditional painting techniques. It uses raster brushes and layers to create expressive 2D images.

Computer-aided design: The use of computer software to create, modify, analyze, or document designs. Its 2D drafting tools use precise vector geometry for plans and diagrams.
Computer animation: The creation of moving images by generating or manipulating visual content with computers. 2D graphics provide the images and drawing methods used in 2D animation.
Pixel: The smallest addressable picture element in a raster image or display. Raster graphics build images from these discrete picture elements.
Anti-aliasing: Techniques that reduce visible distortion when representing continuous edges on discrete pixels. It smooths jagged edges caused by rasterizing shapes onto a grid.
