A. P. J. Abdul Kalam

A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was an Indian aerospace scientist who helped advance India’s missile and space programs and served as president from 2002 to 2007.

Vikram Sarabhai: An Indian physicist who founded institutions that shaped the country’s space research program. Sarabhai recruited Kalam into India’s early space program at the Thumba launch site.
Indian Space Research Organisation: India’s national space agency, responsible for developing and operating the country’s space program. Kalam’s early career at ISRO centered on launch vehicles and satellite launch capability.
Agni missile: A family of Indian medium- to intercontinental-range ballistic missiles. Agni was one of the major missile systems developed under the program Kalam helped direct.
President of India: The constitutional head of state of the Republic of India. Kalam’s 2002–2007 term brought a scientist into the largely ceremonial constitutional office.

Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme: An Indian defense program launched in 1983 to develop a family of indigenous guided missiles. The program’s leadership and public visibility earned Kalam the nickname “Missile Man of India.”
