Abd el-Krim

Abd el-Krim was a Moroccan political and military leader who organized the Rif resistance against Spanish and French rule and founded the short-lived Republic of the Rif.

Rif War: A 1921–1926 conflict in which Rifian forces fought Spanish and French colonial rule in northern Morocco. Abd el-Krim led the Rifian campaign that began this war and drew France into it.
Rifian resistance: The political and armed opposition of Rifian communities to Spanish and French control in northern Morocco. Abd el-Krim transformed local resistance into a coordinated campaign.
Aït Ouriaghel: A Rifian Amazigh tribal group based in the central Rif mountains of northern Morocco. Abd el-Krim came from this group, whose support anchored his authority.
