Abhijit Banerjee

Abhijit Banerjee is an Indian-born American economist whose research uses randomized field experiments to study poverty and development. He shared the 2019 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer.

Randomized controlled trial: An experiment that assigns participants randomly to treatment and control groups to estimate causal effects. Banerjee helped establish randomized trials as a tool for testing anti-poverty interventions.
