Abraham Ortelius

Abraham Ortelius (1527–1598) was a Flemish cartographer and geographer whose 1570 Theatrum Orbis Terrarum is widely regarded as the first modern atlas.

Theatrum Orbis Terrarum: A 1570 atlas by Abraham Ortelius that gathered maps of the known world into a uniform printed volume. This landmark work made Ortelius renowned and gave the atlas form its modern model.
Atlas: A bound collection of maps, often organized to provide a systematic geographic reference. Ortelius’s volume helped establish the atlas as a recognizable printed format.
