Abu Bakr al-Razi

Abu Bakr al-Razi, known in Latin Europe as Rhazes, was a Persian physician, alchemist, and philosopher who lived from about 865 to 925.

Smallpox and Measles: A medical treatise by al-Razi comparing the symptoms and courses of smallpox and measles. This work exemplifies his careful clinical observation and became influential in European medicine.
Galen: A Greek physician whose writings dominated medical theory in Europe and the Middle East for centuries. Al-Razi learned from Galenic medicine while also criticizing some of its claims.

Humorism: An ancient medical theory explaining health and disease through the balance of four bodily fluids. This framework shaped the medicine al-Razi inherited, even as he emphasized particular patient cases.
