Acceleration

Acceleration is the rate at which velocity changes over time. It is a vector, so it includes both the magnitude and direction of that change.

Velocity: Velocity is the rate of change of position, including both speed and direction. Acceleration measures how velocity changes, not merely how speed changes.
Position: Position specifies an object's location relative to a chosen reference frame. Velocity begins with changes in position, whose changes acceleration tracks in turn.
Free fall: Free fall is motion under the influence of gravity alone. Its idealized motion has constant gravitational acceleration near Earth's surface.
Speed: Speed is the rate of distance traveled per unit time and has no direction. An object can accelerate by changing direction while its speed stays constant.
Jerk: Jerk is the rate of change of acceleration over time. It describes how quickly acceleration itself changes.
Time: Time is the dimension used to order events and measure their duration. Acceleration compares changes in velocity over elapsed time.
Accelerometer: An accelerometer is a device that measures proper acceleration. It detects acceleration in phones, vehicles, and scientific instruments.
Proper acceleration: Proper acceleration is acceleration measured by an accelerometer carried with an object. It differs from coordinate acceleration, which depends on the chosen reference frame.
Newton's Second Law: Newton's Second Law relates an object's net force, mass, and acceleration. It predicts acceleration from the net force and mass.
Vector: A vector is a quantity with magnitude and direction. Velocity and acceleration both require direction as well as magnitude.
