Adamawa Plateau

The Adamawa Plateau is a highland region spanning central Cameroon and eastern Nigeria, with elevated grasslands, volcanic landforms, and headwaters of major rivers.

Cameroon Volcanic Line: A chain of volcanoes and volcanic features extending from the Gulf of Guinea into Cameroon. Its volcanic structures shape parts of the plateau, especially around Mount Cameroon and the western highlands.
Adamawa Region: A region of eastern Nigeria named for the nineteenth-century Fulani emirate of Adamawa. It occupies the Nigerian portion of the broader plateau and gives the highlands their name.
Cameroon: A country in Central Africa with Atlantic coastline and diverse highland regions. Most of the plateau lies within Cameroon, where it forms a major interior upland.
Jos Plateau: A highland region in central Nigeria known for tin mining and volcanic features. It is a separate Nigerian plateau with similar volcanic terrain but a different location and history.

Guinea Highlands: A broad region of uplands and mountains in West Africa. They provide a regional comparison for the plateau’s elevated terrain and river headwaters.
Adamawa Region (Cameroon): A region of central Cameroon whose capital is Ngaoundéré. It covers much of the plateau’s Cameroonian highland core.
