Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa is Ethiopia’s capital and largest city, situated in the country’s central highlands. It is the seat of the federal government and the African Union.

Menelik II: Menelik II was emperor of Ethiopia from 1889 to 1913 and founded Addis Ababa as his capital. His court established the settlement that became the city.

Harar: Harar is a historic walled city in eastern Ethiopia and a center of Islamic culture. Its older urban heritage contrasts with Addis Ababa’s origins as a nineteenth-century capital.
