Additive color

Additive color is the mixing of light: combining light sources adds their intensities, producing colors that can become brighter and approach white.

RGB color model: A color model that represents colors by mixing red, green, and blue light. It specifies the three channels commonly used to implement additive color.
Liquid-crystal display: A flat-panel display that controls light transmission through liquid crystals and color filters. Its subpixels regulate red, green, and blue light to form screen colors.
Subtractive color: Color mixing in which pigments, dyes, or filters absorb portions of incident light. Unlike emitted light, subtractive mixtures generally remove wavelengths and darken.
Visible spectrum: The range of electromagnetic wavelengths detectable by typical human vision. Additive mixtures combine light within the wavelengths humans perceive as visible.
Trichromacy: Color vision based on three classes of cone photoreceptors with different spectral sensitivities. Three cone responses help explain why three light primaries can span many perceived colors.
Organic light-emitting diode: A light-emitting diode whose emissive layer contains organic compounds. Its display pixels emit colored light directly for additive mixing.
Color mixing: The combination of lights, pigments, or other color stimuli to produce a resulting color. Additive mixing is one major form of the broader phenomenon.
Electromagnetic radiation: Energy propagated through space as oscillating electric and magnetic fields. Visible light is the physical radiation whose intensities are added.
Cone cell: A retinal photoreceptor specialized for vision in brighter light and color discrimination. Cone responses provide the visual signals that combined light stimulates.
Digital projector: An optical device that forms images by projecting modulated light onto a surface. Projectors combine colored light channels to produce image colors.
