Alfonso V of Portugal

Alfonso V ruled Portugal from 1438 to 1481. Known as “the African,” he pursued conquests in North Africa and supported Portuguese Atlantic voyages.

Conquest of Alcácer Ceguer: The Portuguese capture of the Moroccan port of Alcácer Ceguer in 1458. This 1458 campaign began Alfonso’s sustained effort to expand Portuguese rule in Morocco.
