Africanized bee

Africanized bees are hybrid honey bees descended from African and European subspecies. They are known for strong colony-defense responses and spread through much of the Americas.

Apis mellifera scutellata: An African honey bee subspecies native to eastern and southern Africa. Its descendants supplied the African ancestry associated with Africanized bees’ defensive behavior.
