Knowra Agathis australis Agathis australis Agathis australis, commonly called kauri, is a large conifer endemic to New Zealand. It is distinguished by its massive trunk, long lifespan, and historically valuable timber.
Araucariaceae : A family of ancient conifers native mainly to the Southern Hemisphere. Kauri belongs to this conifer family, alongside New Zealand’s rimu and several Southern Hemisphere genera.
Kauri gum : Fossilized or hardened resin from kauri trees, historically collected and used in varnish and other products. The tree’s resin became a major commodity alongside its timber.
New Zealand : An island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, also known by its Māori name Aotearoa. Kauri is naturally restricted to this country, especially its northern North Island.
