Ageusia

Ageusia is the inability to perceive tastes, usually because gustatory signaling is disrupted. It may be complete or limited to particular taste qualities.

Gustation: Gustation is the sensory system that detects dissolved chemicals as tastes. Ageusia is the loss of this broader sensory function.
Taste test: A taste test measures detection or identification of taste stimuli. Testing helps establish whether reported taste loss reflects impaired gustation.
Bell's palsy: Bell's palsy is an acute weakness or paralysis of facial muscles caused by dysfunction of the facial nerve. Facial nerve involvement can also impair taste carried by its chorda tympani branch.
Flavor: Flavor is the combined sensory experience of food, shaped mainly by taste and smell. Ageusia can weaken flavor perception even when food odors remain detectable.
Taste bud: A taste bud is a cluster of sensory cells that detects chemicals in the mouth. Damage to these receptor structures can prevent taste signals from beginning.
Olfactory dysfunction: Olfactory dysfunction is reduced or absent ability to smell. People often call diminished flavor taste loss even when smell is the main deficit.
Stroke: A stroke is brain injury caused by interrupted blood flow or bleeding. A lesion affecting central taste pathways can cause taste loss.
Nutrition: Nutrition is the process by which organisms obtain and use substances needed for health and growth. Taste loss can reduce appetite or change food choices, affecting dietary intake.
Chorda tympani: The chorda tympani is a branch of the facial nerve that carries taste signals from the front of the tongue. Injury to this pathway can impair taste from the tongue's anterior region.
Dysgeusia: Dysgeusia is a distorted or unpleasant perception of taste. It differs from ageusia, which involves absent rather than altered taste perception.
