Ai-Khanoum

Ai-Khanoum was a Hellenistic city in ancient Bactria, in present-day northern Afghanistan. Founded in the third century BCE, it combined Greek urban forms with Central Asian settings and traditions.

Ai-Khanoum Gymnasium: A large civic and educational complex at Ai-Khanoum, with courtyards, exercise spaces, and rooms for instruction. Its scale and layout show the place of Greek physical education in the city.
