Aïr Mountains

The Aïr Mountains are a volcanic massif in northern Niger, rising above the Sahara. They include Mont Idoukal-n-Taghès, Niger’s highest peak.

Mont Idoukal-n-Taghès: A mountain in the Aïr range and the highest peak in Niger. This summit rises above the massif and marks Niger’s highest elevation.
Aïr Mountains geology: The volcanic and tectonic history that formed the Aïr massif in Niger. Its ancient volcanic rocks make the massif stand out from surrounding desert plains.

Agadez: A historic city in northern Niger and an important center of Tuareg culture. Agadez lies south of the Aïr and has long connected its settlements to Saharan trade.
Ténéré Desert: A hyper-arid region of the Sahara in northeastern Niger. The Ténéré extends east from the Aïr and forms part of its protected landscape.
Tassili n’Ajjer: A sandstone plateau in southeastern Algeria known for extensive prehistoric rock art. Like the Aïr, it preserves Saharan rock art, but lies farther north and west.
