Aircraft fairing

An aircraft fairing is a shaped cover or enclosure that streamlines airflow or protects aircraft components from aerodynamic forces, weather, and debris.

Wing root fairing: A shaped transition covering the junction between an aircraft wing and fuselage. It smooths a major junction where airflow would otherwise separate and create drag.
Aerodynamic drag: The component of aerodynamic force that opposes an object's motion through air. Reducing this force is a central reason for streamlining aircraft surfaces.
