Akhirah
Akhirah is the Islamic conception of the afterlife, in which God resurrects and judges humanity, leading to eternal reward or punishment.
Qiyamah: The Day of Resurrection and final judgment in Islamic belief. Akhirah culminates in the resurrection and judgment associated with Qiyamah.
Taqwa: God-consciousness expressed through reverence, ethical conduct, and mindful obedience in Islam. Akhirah gives urgency to living with awareness of God and final accountability.
Quran: The central scripture of Islam, understood by Muslims as revelation from God. The Quran repeatedly describes resurrection, judgment, paradise, and punishment.
Christian eschatology: Christian teachings about death, resurrection, final judgment, and the end of time. Both traditions teach resurrection and judgment, while differing in theology and doctrine.
Barzakh: The intermediate state between death and resurrection in Islamic belief. Barzakh describes the interval between earthly death and the events of the afterlife.
Tawbah: Repentance and turning back to God in Islamic belief and practice. Hope for divine mercy makes repentance significant in preparation for judgment.
Hadith: Reports about the words, actions, and approvals of the Prophet Muhammad. Hadith elaborates on afterlife events and details not treated at length in Quranic passages.
Jewish eschatology: Jewish teachings concerning the messianic age, resurrection, judgment, and the world to come. Jewish accounts offer a related but distinct framework for life beyond death.
Jannah: The paradise promised to the faithful in Islamic belief. Jannah is the destination of eternal reward within the Akhirah.
Divine justice: The theological claim that God’s judgments are perfectly just. Final judgment addresses the justice of deeds and outcomes beyond earthly life.
