Knowra Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah was the sixth Fatimid caliph, ruling from 996 to 1021. His reign shaped Fatimid governance and Cairo’s religious landscape, including through his commissioning of the Mosque of Al-Hakim.
Fatimid Caliphate : A Shi'a Muslim dynasty and caliphate that ruled North Africa and parts of the Middle East from 909 to 1171. Al-Hakim inherited its caliphate and governed its territories from Cairo.
Sitt al-Mulk : A Fatimid princess and influential political figure, daughter of Caliph al-Aziz and sister of al-Hakim. She became a central power broker during the succession crisis after al-Hakim disappeared.

Dār al-ʿIlm : A Fatimid institution in Cairo, founded in 1005, where scholars studied and taught religious and secular subjects. Al-Hakim founded this Cairo institution as part of his patronage of learning.
Ali az-Zahir : The seventh Fatimid caliph, who succeeded his father al-Hakim and ruled from 1021 to 1036. His accession followed al-Hakim’s disappearance and Sitt al-Mulk’s intervention.
