Alaska Range

The Alaska Range is a mountain arc in southern Alaska, extending roughly east–west and including Denali, North America's highest peak.

Denali: Denali is a 6,190-meter mountain in Alaska and the highest peak in North America. The range’s highest summit dominates its western section.
Alaska-Aleutian megathrust: The Alaska-Aleutian megathrust is the subduction fault where the Pacific Plate descends beneath the North American Plate. Its plate convergence contributes to uplift and earthquakes in southern Alaska.
Denali National Park and Preserve: Denali National Park and Preserve is a protected area in central Alaska encompassing Denali and surrounding wilderness. It safeguards a large portion of the range’s central landscapes.
Alaska Range tundra: Alaska Range tundra is alpine vegetation and habitat above the local tree line in the range. It occupies high slopes between forested valleys and glaciers.
Mount Foraker: Mount Foraker is a 5,304-meter mountain in the central Alaska Range. It rises near Denali and is the range’s second-highest peak.
Denali Fault: The Denali Fault is a major active strike-slip fault crossing Alaska. Movement along it accommodates crustal deformation near the range.
Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve: Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve is a vast protected area in southeastern Alaska. Its western boundary meets the eastern Alaska Range.
Talkeetna Mountains: The Talkeetna Mountains are a mountain group northeast of Anchorage in south-central Alaska. They lie south of the western Alaska Range, separated by broad valleys.
Mount Hunter: Mount Hunter is a 4,442-meter mountain in the central Alaska Range. Its steep faces make it one of the range’s defining climbing objectives.
Glacial erosion: Glacial erosion is the wearing and reshaping of land by moving ice. Alaska Range glaciers carve its valleys, cirques, and sharp ridges.
