Alauddin Khalji

Alauddin Khalji was the second ruler of the Khalji dynasty, ruling the Delhi Sultanate from 1296 to 1316. He expanded Sultanate power through northern conquests and campaigns into the Deccan.

Delhi Sultanate: A series of Muslim-ruled dynasties based in Delhi that governed large parts of the Indian subcontinent from 1206 to 1526. Alauddin’s state was one phase of this larger political formation.
Khalji dynasty: A dynasty that ruled the Delhi Sultanate from 1290 to 1320, succeeding the Mamluk dynasty. Alauddin’s reign was the dynasty’s most expansive period.
Ranthambore: A fortified Rajput stronghold in present-day Rajasthan, captured by Alauddin Khalji in 1301. Its conquest challenged a major regional power resisting his expansion.

Jalaluddin Khalji: The founder and first sultan of the Khalji dynasty, who ruled the Delhi Sultanate from 1290 to 1296. Alauddin was his nephew and son-in-law before overthrowing him.
Chittor: A major Rajput fort in present-day Rajasthan, captured by Alauddin Khalji in 1303. The siege became one of the best-known episodes of his northern campaigns.
Kakatiya dynasty: A dynasty that ruled parts of the eastern Deccan from its capital at Warangal until the fourteenth century. Alauddin’s forces compelled the Kakatiya ruler to submit and pay tribute.
Alauddin Khalji's market reforms: State measures that regulated prices, grain supplies, and merchants in the Delhi Sultanate under Alauddin Khalji. Price controls helped provision his large army and restrain military costs.
Kara, Uttar Pradesh: A medieval town on the Ganges in present-day Uttar Pradesh and an important provincial center under the Delhi Sultanate. Alauddin governed Kara before using its resources to seize the throne.
