Albanian national awakening

The 19th-century cultural and political movement that fostered Albanian-language education, national identity, and independence from Ottoman rule.

Albanian people: An ethnic group native to the western Balkans, primarily in Albania and Kosovo. The movement sought to unite Albanian-speaking communities across religious and regional divisions.
Sami Frashëri: An Albanian intellectual and Ottoman official who wrote influential works on Albanian language, education, and political identity. His writings articulated a program for Albanian cultural and political development.

Abdyl Frashëri: An Albanian political leader who helped found and lead the League of Prizren. He organized the movement’s early demands for territorial defense and autonomy.
