Aldrin

Aldrin is a persistent organochlorine insecticide formerly used against soil pests and termites. It can be converted in the environment and animals into dieldrin, a highly persistent insecticide.

Dieldrin: Dieldrin is a persistent organochlorine insecticide and a major environmental metabolite of aldrin. Aldrin is readily oxidized into dieldrin, which persists longer in organisms and the environment.
Termite control: Methods used to prevent or eliminate termite infestations in buildings and other structures. Aldrin was applied to soil and building foundations to control termites.
Stockholm Convention: A global treaty that restricts or eliminates persistent organic pollutants. The treaty lists aldrin for elimination, subject to specified exemptions.

Cyclodiene insecticides: A group of organochlorine insecticides built around a cyclodiene chemical structure. Aldrin is a cyclodiene insecticide, alongside compounds such as dieldrin and endrin.
Corn rootworm: A beetle whose larvae feed on corn roots and can cause substantial crop damage. Aldrin was used in agricultural soils to suppress rootworm larvae.
