Aleksandr Vasilevsky

Aleksandr Vasilevsky was a Soviet military commander and Marshal of the Soviet Union who served as chief of the General Staff during World War II. He helped plan major Soviet offensives on the Eastern Front.

Battle of Stalingrad: A major 1942–1943 battle in which Soviet forces encircled and defeated German troops at Stalingrad. Vasilevsky helped plan Operation Uranus, the Soviet encirclement that turned the battle.
General Staff of the Soviet Armed Forces: The central military planning and command organization of the Soviet armed forces. Vasilevsky led its wartime work as chief of the General Staff.
Joseph Stalin: The Soviet leader who directed the country during World War II. As supreme commander, Stalin worked closely with Vasilevsky on strategic decisions.
