Alexandre Pétion

Alexandre Pétion (1770–1818) was a Haitian revolutionary and politician who led the southern Republic of Haiti as president from 1807 until his death.

Jean-Pierre Boyer: A Haitian military officer and politician who succeeded Pétion as president and later unified Haiti under one government. Pétion designated Boyer as his successor in 1818.
Haitian Revolution: A revolution from 1791 to 1804 that ended French colonial rule and established Haiti as an independent state. Pétion’s political career emerged from this struggle against slavery and French rule.
