Alexios I Komnenos

Alexios I Komnenos was Byzantine emperor from 1081 to 1118. He restored imperial authority after civil war and military defeats, beginning the Komnenian dynasty.

Komnenian Restoration: The recovery of Byzantine political authority, military strength, and territorial stability under the Komnenian emperors. Alexios’s rebuilding of imperial power began this broader recovery.
