Alice Walker

Alice Walker is an American novelist, poet, and activist whose fiction and essays examine race, gender, family, and spiritual life. Her 1982 novel The Color Purple won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Award for Fiction.

The Color Purple: Alice Walker’s 1982 novel follows Celie, a Black Southern woman who builds a life beyond abuse and isolation. This novel brought Walker her widest recognition and centers themes found across her writing.
