Aliivibrio fischeri

Aliivibrio fischeri is a marine bacterium that emits light and can live freely in seawater or in symbiosis with animals, including the Hawaiian bobtail squid.

Bacterial bioluminescence: Light emission by bacteria through biochemical reactions involving luciferase and a reduced flavin substrate. A. fischeri produces visible light through this bacterial process.
Hawaiian bobtail squid: A small nocturnal squid that houses bioluminescent bacteria in a specialized light organ. It is the best-known animal host of A. fischeri.
