Álvaro Arzú

Álvaro Arzú was a Guatemalan politician who served as president from 1996 to 2000 and as mayor of Guatemala City for multiple terms.

Guatemalan Civil War: A decades-long armed conflict between Guatemala’s government and leftist insurgent groups, lasting from 1960 to 1996. Arzú governed as the conflict ended and negotiated the agreements that formally closed it.
