Amadou Hampâté Bâ

Amadou Hampâté Bâ (1900–1991) was a Malian writer, ethnologist, and historian who collected, studied, and published West African oral traditions, especially those of the Fulani.

Oral tradition: Knowledge and cultural expression transmitted chiefly through spoken performance across generations. Bâ treated spoken narratives as historical and intellectual sources, not merely folklore.
Kaïdara: A Fulani initiatory tale recorded and published by Amadou Hampâté Bâ and the writer Tierno Bokar. This published tale presents the symbolic and philosophical depth of Fulani oral literature.
