Amarna letters

The Amarna letters are a cache of diplomatic correspondence from the fourteenth century BCE, written mainly in Akkadian cuneiform on clay tablets. They document Egypt’s relations with neighboring rulers and vassals during the reigns of Amenhotep III and Akhenaten.

Akkadian language: A Semitic language used across ancient Mesopotamia and the Near East, written chiefly in cuneiform. Akkadian was the letters’ principal language, even when correspondents were not native speakers.
Great powers of the Late Bronze Age: The major kingdoms that interacted diplomatically across the eastern Mediterranean and Near East during the Late Bronze Age. Their rulers exchanged letters as peers within a system of international diplomacy.
