Amasis II

Amasis II was a pharaoh of Egypt’s Twenty-sixth Dynasty who ruled from 570 to 526 BCE. His reign brought prosperity and extensive contact with Greek communities before the Persian conquest.

Naucratis: An ancient Egyptian port city that served as a major Greek trading settlement in Egypt. Amasis concentrated Greek trade at this Nile Delta entrepôt.
Apries: A pharaoh of Egypt’s Twenty-sixth Dynasty who ruled before Amasis, from about 589 to 570 BCE. Amasis seized the throne after a revolt against Apries’s rule.
Temple of Amun at Hibis: An ancient Egyptian temple in the Kharga Oasis, begun under Amasis and completed under Persian rule. Its construction shows Amasis’s building activity beyond the Nile Valley.
