American Brahman

American Brahman is a heat-tolerant beef cattle breed developed in the United States from Indian zebu cattle, especially Gir, Guzerat, and Nellore stock. Its distinctive hump, loose skin, and tolerance of heat and parasites reflect its zebu ancestry.

Zebu: Zebu are domestic cattle descended from Bos indicus, distinguished by humps and adaptations to hot climates. American Brahman belongs to the zebu lineage and inherited its characteristic hump and heat tolerance.
Thermotolerance: Thermotolerance is the ability of an organism to maintain function under elevated temperatures. It explains the breed's capacity to remain productive in hot climates.
Beef cattle: Beef cattle are domestic cattle raised primarily for meat production. American Brahman was developed and selected as a beef breed.

Kankrej cattle: Kankrej cattle are a zebu breed from Gujarat and Rajasthan, also known as Guzerat cattle. Guzerat, the historical name for Kankrej, supplied another major Brahman foundation line.
Sweating: Sweating is the secretion of fluid onto the skin, where evaporation can remove body heat. Efficient heat dissipation helps Brahman cattle cope with high ambient temperatures.
