Amhara people

The Amhara are an ethnic group native to Ethiopia, traditionally associated with the Amhara Region and the Amharic language. They have played a major role in Ethiopian state formation and culture.

Amharic: A Semitic language of Ethiopia and the principal language traditionally associated with the Amhara. It is the group's traditional language and a major medium of Ethiopian public life.
Kingdom of Aksum: An ancient kingdom centered in northern Ethiopia and Eritrea that flourished during the first millennium CE. Aksum is part of the wider northern Ethiopian history often invoked in accounts of Amhara origins.
Zera Yacob: A seventeenth-century Ethiopian philosopher known for a work of rational inquiry called Hatata. His writing in the Ethiopian intellectual tradition connects Amharic literary culture with philosophical debate.
