Amyntas III of Macedon

Amyntas III was king of Macedon from about 393 to 370/369 BCE. His reign restored Argead rule after dynastic instability and foreign pressure.

Argead dynasty: The royal dynasty that ruled Macedon from its early history until the death of Alexander IV in 310 BCE. Amyntas restored this dynasty's authority after rival claimants and invasions disrupted the throne.

Chalcidian League: A federation of cities in the Chalcidice, led by Olynthus in the fifth and fourth centuries BCE. Its power brought Amyntas into conflict over lands claimed by Macedon.
