Anarcho-communism

Anarcho-communism is an anarchist tradition advocating the abolition of the state and private ownership of productive property, with resources held in common and distributed according to need.

Common ownership: An arrangement in which property is held collectively rather than owned privately by individuals or firms. Productive resources are held in common rather than controlled by private owners.
Mikhail Bakunin: A Russian revolutionary and theorist who became a leading figure in nineteenth-century anarchism. His conflict with Marx helped define anarchism's opposition to centralized political power.
Marxism: A socialist tradition drawing on Karl Marx's analysis of capitalism, class conflict, and historical change. Anarcho-communists reject the Marxist strategy of capturing state power during a transition.
Free Territory: A territory in southeastern Ukraine where anarchist forces and local institutions operated during the Russian Civil War. Its communes and councils are often cited as an attempt at anarchist-communist organization.
Gift economy: An exchange system in which goods and services circulate through giving rather than prices or direct payment. It illustrates how distribution can proceed without markets or money.
Peter Kropotkin: A Russian geographer and anarchist theorist who argued that cooperation is central to social life. His writings gave anarchist communism influential accounts of mutual aid and communal provision.
Anarcho-syndicalism: An anarchist strategy that centers revolutionary trade unions and direct worker control of production. It emphasizes unions as the vehicle of transformation, unlike anarcho-communism's broader communal focus.
Revolutionary Catalonia: The period of worker collectivization and revolutionary self-management in Catalonia during the Spanish Civil War. Collectivized workplaces and communities put anarchist communist ideas into practice on a large scale.
Mutual aid: Cooperative support through which people meet shared needs by helping one another. Anarcho-communists treat cooperation as a basis for social provision.
First International: The International Workingmen's Association, founded in 1864 to connect labor and socialist movements. Disputes within it sharpened divisions between anarchists and Marxists.
