Ancient Greek theatre was a performance tradition built around public festivals, choruses, and plays of tragedy, comedy, and satyr drama. Its surviving works and theatrical conventions shaped later drama.

Greek tragedy: A dramatic genre that stages serious conflicts involving human choices, divine powers, and suffering. Its plays formed one of the central genres performed at Athenian festivals.
