Knowra Andaman Sea Andaman Sea The Andaman Sea is a marginal sea in the northeastern Indian Ocean, bordered by Myanmar, Thailand, the Malay Peninsula, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Indian Ocean : The third-largest ocean, lying between Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Southern Ocean. The Andaman Sea forms a northeastern marginal sea of this ocean.
Andaman Sea Basin : A deep ocean basin in the northeastern Indian Ocean, bounded by the Andaman–Nicobar island arc and mainland Southeast Asia. It occupies the deeper central part of the sea.
Barren Island : An active volcanic island in the Andaman Sea, belonging to India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is the sea’s best-known active volcano.

2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami : A magnitude 9.1–9.3 undersea earthquake off northern Sumatra that triggered a devastating Indian Ocean tsunami. The rupture extended along the subduction zone west of the Andaman Sea, generating tsunami waves.
Port of Phuket : A port on Thailand’s Andaman coast serving cargo, passenger, and tourism traffic. It anchors maritime transport and tourism along the sea’s eastern shore.
Strait of Malacca : A narrow sea passage between the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra connecting the Andaman Sea with the South China Sea. It is the sea’s principal southern outlet toward the South China Sea.
