André-Charles Boulle

André-Charles Boulle (1642–1732) was a French cabinetmaker, sculptor, and royal craftsman renowned for furniture inlaid with brass, tortoiseshell, and other materials.

Boulle marquetry: A furniture-inlay technique that cuts matching designs from contrasting sheets, commonly brass and tortoiseshell. The technique most closely associated with Boulle’s name and workshop.
Commode: A low chest of drawers, often fitted with a decorative top and designed for a domestic interior. Boulle’s elaborate inlay became especially prominent on this form of storage furniture.
