André Rigaud

André Rigaud was a Haitian military leader in the Haitian Revolution who later headed a separatist government in southern Haiti.

Saint-Domingue: Saint-Domingue was the French colony occupying the western part of Hispaniola before Haiti’s independence. Its plantation society and colonial divisions formed the world Rigaud entered as a military leader.
Toussaint Louverture: Toussaint Louverture was a leading general of the Haitian Revolution who governed Saint-Domingue before French capture in 1802. Louverture defeated Rigaud’s southern forces in the War of Knives.
