Andrei Zhdanov

Andrei Zhdanov was a Soviet Communist Party leader who directed cultural policy under Joseph Stalin and promoted ideological control of the arts and sciences.

Zhdanovism: A Soviet doctrine demanding that culture and scholarship conform to Communist Party ideology. Zhdanov’s name became attached to the doctrine underpinning his postwar cultural campaigns.
