Anglo-America

Anglo-America is the English-speaking part of the Americas, usually comprising the United States and Canada and sometimes including English-speaking Caribbean countries.

English-speaking world: Countries and communities where English is widely used as a first or additional language. Anglo-America is one regional part of this wider linguistic sphere.
Latin America: A region of the Americas shaped chiefly by Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking societies, with broader definitions including French-speaking areas. It is commonly contrasted with Anglo-America as a different linguistic and historical region.
British colonization of the Americas: The establishment of English and British colonies across parts of North America and the Caribbean. It established English-speaking societies that became the region's historical core.
United States: A federal republic in North America comprising 50 states, a federal district, and several territories. It is the most populous and politically influential part of Anglo-America.
British Empire: A global empire that expanded from English and British rule into territories across every inhabited continent. Its expansion spread English institutions and migration across much of Anglo-America.
English language: A West Germanic language that became a global lingua franca through migration, empire, trade, and cultural influence. English use is the main criterion for including places in Anglo-America.
Hispanic America: The Spanish-speaking countries and territories of the Americas and their associated societies. Its Spanish-language focus contrasts with Anglo-America's English-language basis.
Thirteen Colonies: The British colonies on North America's Atlantic coast that declared independence in 1776 and formed the United States. Their political separation from Britain created the largest country in Anglo-America.
Canada: A federal parliamentary country in North America with English and French as official languages at the federal level. It is Anglo-America's other usual core country, despite its substantial French-speaking population.
Settler colonialism: A form of colonialism in which settlers establish lasting societies while displacing or subordinating Indigenous peoples. The regional label can foreground settler societies and understate Indigenous histories.
