Anne V. Coates

Anne V. Coates (1925–2018) was a British film editor whose credits included Lawrence of Arabia, The Elephant Man, and In the Line of Fire. Her career spanned more than six decades.

Lawrence of Arabia: David Lean’s 1962 historical epic follows T. E. Lawrence during the Arab Revolt. Coates’s match cut from a blown-out match to a desert sunrise became one of cinema’s best-known transitions.
