Anthony Leggett

Anthony Leggett is a British-American theoretical physicist whose work explained superfluidity in helium-3 and advanced the theory of superconductivity. He shared the 2003 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Superfluidity: A state of matter that flows without viscosity and exhibits other macroscopic quantum effects. Leggett explained how paired helium-3 atoms produce superfluid behavior.
Order parameter: A quantity that describes the symmetry and state of an ordered phase of matter. Leggett’s description of helium-3 uses an order parameter with spin and orbital structure.
