Anthranilic acid

Anthranilic acid, or 2-aminobenzoic acid, is an aromatic compound with adjacent amino and carboxyl groups on a benzene ring. It is a precursor in tryptophan biosynthesis and a starting material for dyes, pharmaceuticals, and other chemicals.

Tryptophan biosynthesis: The metabolic pathway that produces tryptophan from chorismate in organisms such as bacteria and plants. Anthranilate is the first committed intermediate after chorismate in this pathway.
